Olympic Torch Relay Celebration

Saturday, February 6, 2010 - Day 100

A two-hour celebration at the Old Mill Plaza, complete with live local entertainment and videos on a jumbo screen, welcomed the Olympic flame to Lillooet on Saturday, February 6, 2010.

Media estimates say a crowd of almost 2,000 people was on hand to greet community torchbearer Bob Sheridan as he lit the Olympic cauldron.

The celebration featured headliner George Leach and the trio of Jon Kelly Plus One. Other performers included the Elementary School Choir under the direction of Sandra MacDonald, the Lillooet Seconday School Choir under the direction of Yvonne Eaglestone, as well as Zumak7'ul, Len Fardella and Admiral Andrew.

The celebration also included a day of fitness and fun at the REC Centre. It kicked off with a pancake breakfast at 6:30 a.m. and activities continued throughout the day with free public swimming and skating, a film festival, fitness demonstrations and games of Lazer Tag, Bungee Bounce and Sumo Wrestling in the gym. The day concluded with a midnight skate in the hockey arena.

Volunteers served up 826 hot dogs and 12 gallons of chili to the hungry crowds at the REC Centre.
