Spirit of BC Committee
 |
In the spring of 2004 the Lillooet Spirit of BC committee was formed by Mayor and Council. Councillor Christ'l Roshard was made chair of the committee. Other community members include Councillor Wendy Parker of the District of Lillooet. |
The committee's mandate is to maximize the opportunities created by the 2010 Winter Games for Lillooet and area. Given Lillooet's close proximity to Whistler, poised as the Northern Gateway to the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the community is in an excellent position to benefit from this once-in-a-lifetime event.
Benefits will range from improved sports facilities, literacy and arts development and volunteer opportunities to community revitalization and economic growth through expanded tourism, job creation and local economy diversification.
Besides meeting regularly, Lillooet's Spirit of BC community committee has hosted the following events since its inception:
| May 2004 |
Community open house meeting to discuss local opportunities and get community input and support. |
| February 2005 |
Hosted Spirit of BC flag raising, which marked the five-year countdown to the 2010 Games. |

Created and hosted the "Raise the Spirit of BC" Opportunities Forum. This two-day regional conference hosted Transportation Minister Kevin Falcon, Economic Development and Small Business Minister John Les, MLS Dave Chutter, area First Nations members, representatives of local governments, business and community members to learn more about opportunities created by the 2010 Games. |
